The Piston Assembly in Cars

All combustion engines make use of pistons to drive the engine. The fuel is ignited above the piston assembly and this forces the piston down, causing them to rotate, creating the forward movement of the vehicle. Over time, the piston assembly, whether it is the piston sleeves, rings or the pistons themselves, can become worn. If these parts become worn the car might start producing smoke because the oil is bypassing the piston due to the wear and tear. Replacing the piston assembly is important if the old parts are not functioning properly.

What Happens if the Piston Assembly is Worn?

One of the things that becomes noticeable when the pistons are worn is the car might lose power and begin smoking. Sometimes it is only necessary to replace certain parts and not the entire piston assembly. When the car goes in for its annual service, ask the mechanic to check the condition of the piston assembly by road testing the car and checking its power and the level of smoke emissions. If the mechanic suggests that the pistons and related assembly parts are worn, it might be worthwhile replacing them.

Buying a Piston Assembly Online

Nowadays it is very easy to purchase car parts online. Simply punch in the make and model of the car and locate the piston assembly that suits your car. Add the parts to your online shopping basket, and checkout. For the delivery address, add in either the mechanic’s address who will be fitting the new parts, or your home address where you want the online purchase delivered, and sit back and wait for delivery. Ensuring that the piston assembly in your car is functioning properly is a must.
