What is an EGR Module?

An EGR Module is an abbreviation of the term Exhaust Gas Recirculation. The module helps to reduce the emission of nitrogen oxide gas into the atmosphere. Nitrogen gas is a result of petrol or diesel combustion. The recirculation module recirculates a portion of that gas back into the car’s cylinders. The recirculation will dilute the O2 from the entering air stream, with the inert gasses acting as a heat absorbent during combustion which reduces in-cylinder peak temperatures.

How to know there is a problem with the EGR system?

When something goes wrong with the EGR Module, it will stop circulating the harmful gasses. In some cases, the gasses will leak into the atmosphere which gives out a distinct smell. Either way, the EU’s strict anti-emission laws dictate that all cars need to have this module installed and in working condition. If your vehicle is found not to have a working module, it will fail the emissions test and will result in fines. In some of the later model vehicles, a malfunctioning module can cause the engine check light to glow indicating a problem. It is for this reason that getting it replaced right away with the right one is imperative.

Buy the right module for your vehicle

All makes and modules use a slightly different type of EGR Module. So, it's imperative to purchase the right replacement for your car. Make sure to refer to the user manual for a part number or consult with a certified mechanic. Once the part number is known, you will find a genuine Exhaust Gas Recirculation Module at 123spareparts.co.uk at a discounted price.
